Ace of Spades (ch 1-3)
Ed has now "helped" 6 people, and he is on his way to helping 3 more. In Chapter 3 Ed says, "I'm running all over town, getting trodden on, beaten up, abused, and for what? What do I get out of it? What's in it for Ed Kennedy?" What do you think is "in it" for Ed? What is he getting out of it? Do you think Ed is only doing this because he was threatened? Why else might he be doing it? Explain your answer in at least seven sentences.

I think what Ed is getting out of this is he's learning how to "help" people & It doesn't matter how. & I think that it isn't all for the other people, I think its to prove that he isn't the low life that he thinks he is.
I think that Ed is doing it mainly because he's helping people, & because that he will die if he doesn't do it.
I think Ed's real reward is himself. Strange you might say. But really he's making himself change more than anything. He's becoming somebody and that's more a reward than anything for Ed Kennedy. I think Ed's almost forgotten the threats to do the work. I think he's doing it now because it feels right. Almost because he chooses. Maybe he will get something more. Some grand reward. But either way he'll gain new found confidence and heroism.
I'm not too positive about what is in it for Ed. He is starting to recognize himself. He gets respect and he see's life as it is. And making something out of himself. His name is becoming well known.
I personally don't think Ed is only doing it because he was threatened. I believe he is doing it because he wants to. He is finding himself inside each and every one of these people he helps. He might be finding satisfaction in helping people. He has his own opinion and his own "goals" in life. We may sooner or later figure it out.
Alot is in it for Ed at this point. He's learning alot more then he's giving. I think this is teaching him.I don't think Ed is only doing this because of threats. I think he's doing it because he enjoys helping the people. He got hurt pretty bad for the Gavin kid. He is gaining alot of courage while doing this.
I think Ed is doing this because he's curious about it. But really i think that Ed is making himself a life by doing this. He's not really a no body that drives a taxi. He's some guy that explores and takes risks. This is a chance for him to become someone. Or do something good/bad for himself.
The only thing "in it" for Ed Kennedy is him believing more in himself. He's getting more self respect and more self confidence to him. Ed is doing this because he was threatened and might be worried. I think now he's remained doing it because he likes the feelings of helping out other people. It may make him feel better on the inside knowing that he helped someone out.
I think is learning how to help people even if the person is not the best looking person. I think its for him to see that life is vaulable and just wasting it away won't be the best thing in the world. I think he is doing it because he feels threaten. The reason is that he keeps getting beat up if he don't do what he is supposed too. He always gets into a posseson that he don't want to be in. He is doing what he can to not keep getting random people at his house beating him up. You know he wants to go home and not worry that someone is going to be there to beat him uo.
I think that himself is a better award then anything. I think that he is doing not only because he is the one getting picked to do it but also because its the right thing to do.I do think that he is going to keep reading the cards and doing what they ask him to do because like i said before he feels he is doing the right thing. Helping :)

I kind of feel like Ed is like Jim Carey in "YES MAN". He has been forced to do whatever these cards say and now i feel like he is helping people because it is becoming a habit. Just like Jim Carey in that movie he is forced to say yes about everything and in the end he ends up saying yes naturally and becoming a newly liked person. Ed seems like he has felt good about the things he has done for all of these people. I think that is the strongest reward. He knows he is doing good things and he feels good about himself. He is becoming someone that he never thought he could be, also that others thought he couldn't be. He isn't doing it because he is threatened anymore. It is out of his heart.
I think that Ed is only helping people because,if he doesnt he will get killed. I think that Ed shouldnt be so hard on himself because he really isn't a low life.I really do think Ed is changeing in a way, He seems braver then what he was in the beginging of the book. This story is getting intense. And im excited to see what happens next(:
i think he wS GETTING OUT TO help people. i think that edd is in it because hes a good person and wants to prove it. i think their will be a reward for it. i think that reward will be that he will find out who he is. i also think he feels threatend if he doesnt follow through. he might also be doing it for a self reward like pride or something along those lines.
ed is showing himself that he can do it giving himself confidence.i think at first ed thought it was weird but now he has had the chance to help people and he likes that felling so hes going to keep doing it because its becoming a part of him.
